Snacking with Davos Seaworth

“Fetch him some hot wine with cloves, I am misliking the sound of that cough.  Squeeze some lime in it as well.  And bring white cheese and a bowl of those cracked green olives we counted earlier!  Davos, I will join you soon, once I have bespoken our good captain.  You will be forgiving me, I know.  Do not eat all the olives, or I will be cross with you!” (III: 136)

Snacks for Davos

Our Thoughts:

Feta and olives are a classic Mediterranean pairing, and are very nice when combined with the hot white wine.  If you like pepper, just a touch sprinkled on top of both olives and cheese can be lovely.  Try finding a windswept spit of rock, or a tallship to eat your snack on.

What you’ll need:

  • Hot wine with lime juice (get the recipe)
  • white cheese, such as feta
  • cracked green olives

    This looks amazing! I love Mediterranean food. I’m intrigued by the hot wine, I will have to give that a try.

    Until recently, the only thing I used my slow cooker for was to make various kinds of hot wine! Your white wine version is significantly less likely to stain everything it comes in contact with. :)

    Okay at first glance my ‘sleepy monday brain’ read “Smacking Down with Davos Seaworth”, and I laughed. Love the feta and olive/ wine idea. May have to do this on Friday, as we don’t get a sunny summer over on North Van Isl.

    Love all your photos and recipes but this pic is simply elegant. Would actually believe the ‘hot wine with cloves’ is a red wine, like European mulled wines and that Jon Snow always makes for the Old Bear, but the modern version looks quenching :)
    You guys are food rock stars and please open your own Inn and web company!

      You know, I was working from the google books version, which omitted the description as being a red wine. I found it later, but really fell in love with this recipe! It’s also nice to have a different take on hot wine, since we’ve got the two recipes up for the Old Bear’s wine. This one is also perfect for those crisp summer evenings. :)

    I would drizzle a bit of olive oil over the olives and cheese, other than that it looks as delicious as I imagined when I first read it.
