Found out about your website from the Wall Street Journal today. I love to cook and have been listening to the whole George R. R. Martin series on Audible all the while following with interest his descriptions of the food. The WSJ article mentioned that you hadn’t tried squirrel yet. I’m from WV and squirrel hunting in the fall is a popular passtime for our hunters. Squirrel is delicious. . . the old timers would par-boil it (after cutting it up like a chicken) then roll it in seasoned flour and fry it. It’s fantastic. However, I draw the line as squirrel brains. I watched my mother tap the little skull with a spoon and eat the brains. Reminds me of the scene from Indiana Jones with the monkey brains.
I’d absolutely try squirrel! The idea of pairing it with acorn paste and pickles, like in the books, is extremely appealing to me. The problem up here is getting one, although the cats are game to make a try for the ones scrambling up the tree outside our kitchen… :)
I just a notification from Amazon that the cookbook will be out May 29th! Two months ahead of the previous date. YES!!
